RENACCI SIGNS TERM LIMIT PLEDGE

CINCINNATI, OH – July 10th, Jim Renacci signed the U.S. Term Limits pledge in Cincinnati. The pledge is a promise to support a constitutional amendment to limit the number of terms people can serve in the U.S. Congress. In addition, Renacci took the extra step and signed a personal pledge to limit himself to two terms in the U.S. Senate.

“There are too many career politicians in Washington ,” stated Renacci. “The problem with career politicians is that they make decisions based on their next election instead of the next generation . I’m a small business owner, not a career politician like Sherrod Brown. I want to serve the great state of Ohio by sharing my first-hand experience as a small business owner – and then come back home to Ohio. That’s why I’m pledging to the people of Ohio to serve no more than two terms in the U.S. Senate.”

Renacci is running for the U.S. Senate against Senator Sherrod Brown. Brown has been a politician his entire adult life, collecting more than $4.5 million in taxpayer funded salaries over the last 44 years. Early in his political career, Brown supported term limits, saying they were needed to “cleanse the system of arrogant lawmakers who overstay their time in the Capitol.” However, once Brown reached his self-imposed limit in 2004, he broke his promise and flip-flopped on term limits – all to allow himself to stay in Washington even longer. Fourteen years after he broke that promise and more than 20 years after he made that promise, Brown is still trying to cling on to his seat.

“The people of Ohio are tired of career politicians in Washington who say one thing on the campaign trail and do another once they get to Washington,”stated Renacci. “Twenty years ago, Sherrod Brown said term limits were needed to ‘cleanse the system’ of career politicians. But once he became one of those career politicians, Brown broke his promise to the people of Ohio and continues to this day to run for office. That’s why we need a constitutional amendment to enforce term limits for Members of Congress. It will hold double-talking career politicians like Sherrod Brown accountable and force them to keep their promises. I want to thank U.S. Term Limits for the work they do.”

Ohio voters overwhelmingly supported to enact term limits for state legislators in 1992, with more than 68 percent supporting it. According to a joint poll with McLaughlin and Associates and U.S. Term Limits, 82 percent of people support term limits for Members of Congress, including 76 percent of Democrats and 83 percent of Independents.
